Bilateral Adrenal Incidentalomas: A Case Report and Review of Diagnostic Challenges
نویسندگان
چکیده
Incidentally discovered adrenal masses (incidentalomas) are common and present challenges both in diagnosis and management. When incidentally discovered adrenal masses are bilateral, a refined diagnostic approach is warranted since bilateral disease is more likely to be pathologic. We review a case of a 34-year-old man with incidentally discovered bilateral adrenal nodules. A comprehensive diagnostic strategy led to the diagnosis of bilateral pheochromocytoma caused by von Hippel-Lindau syndrome. He was successfully treated with bilateral laparoscopic adrenalectomy and has recovered well. While the initial diagnostic approach is similar to the unilateral incidentaloma, additional testing and/or genetic testing should be considered in the case of the bilateral adrenal mass.

Not functioning adrenocortical carcinoma from diagnosis to management: a case report
Abstract Adrenal gland cysts are rare indications of adrenal diseases, which are commonly asymptomatic. In radiological studies, these cysts, known as incidentalomas, are often detected by coincidence accounting for 6% of the population. Adrenal incidentalomas are commonly detected, and autonomous cortisol hypersecretion is the most prevalent abnormality associated with these masses. Since thi...
متن کاملAdrenal Incidentalomas with Supraphysiologic Response to ACTH Stimulus: A Case Report
We present the diagnostic approach of a patient with adrenal incidentalomas. A 72-year-old African American male had a CT scan of the abdomen showing right and left adrenal masses measuring 5 × 3.5 cm and 3.7 × 2.9 cm, respectively. The patient had negative hormonal workup. The radiologist insisted that the CT findings are consistent with adrenal hyperplasia, and therefore he underwent ACTH sti...
متن کاملUtility of F-18 FDG-PET in Detecting Primary Aldosteronism in Patients with Bilateral Adrenal Incidentalomas
In patients with primary aldosteronism who have bilateral adrenal incidentalomas, it is important to identify which adrenal gland is secreting excess aldosterone. Traditionally, adrenal vein sampling (AVS) has been performed for lateralization despite its invasiveness. Here we report a case of bilateral adrenal incidentaloma in which 18-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET...

متن کاملThree uncommon adrenal incidentalomas: a 13-year surgical pathology review
BACKGROUND The discovery of adrenal incidentalomas due to the widespread use of sophisticated abdominal imaging techniques has resulted in an increasing trend of adrenal gland specimens being received in the pathology laboratory. In this context, we encountered three uncommon adrenal incidentalomas. The aim of this manuscript is to report in detail the three index cases of adrenal incidentalomas...
